NCPA in association with Archana Trust presents SAKHI: A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO THE INDIAN WOMANHOOD featuring Kaushiki Chakraborty (vocal), Nandini Shankar (violin),
Debopriya Chatterjee (flute), Bhakti Deshpande (dance), Sawani Talwalkar (tabla), Mahima Upadhyay (pakhawaj).
Sakhi is a story told through music and dance, of all that an Indian woman has been for centuries: Ganga, Saraswati, Durga, Lakshmi, Draupadi, Kunti, Sita, Radha, Meera, Kamali, as well as those numerous courtesans whose contribution to Indian music and dance remains as anonymous as their existence. The spirit of sakhi is explored through diverse genres of Hindustani and Carnatic music such as khayal, thumri, dadra, chaiti, hori, kajri, tarana, thillana and bhajan.
