One of the most awaited dance events of the year at the NCPA is the August Dance Residency. Each year, NCPA invites a renowned dance institute from India to showcase their work in a series of performances, lec-dems and seminars. This year, we celebrate Darpana Academy of Performing Arts. The residency will have performances, film screenings, talks and workshops.
- Aug 28, 7pm, Little Theatre: LOOKING INTO DARPANA, a special film made on the life and works of the legendary Mrinalini Sarabhai and a candid in conversation with the dancer and activist Mallika Sarabhai on the present and the way forward. Free event.
- Aug 29, 7pm, Experimental theater: Mallika Sarabhai’s dance theatre production SITA’S DAUGHTERS
- Aug 30, 11am, Sea View Room: DANCE, MOVEMENT AND THEATRE WORKSHOP
Dance and theatre share a very porous relationship. Thus the increasing number of dance theatre production these days doesn’t come as a surprise. This workshop would be useful for looking at the innovative use of stylised movement in theatre and intelligent use of spoken words in dance thus applicable for students and practitioners of both the genres.
