Raag and Taal Academy, a San Diego based non-profit Indian performing arts management organization, is presenting a full length Bharatha Natyam classical dance ballet production, titled Krishnam Vande Jagatgurum, featuring 8 dancers from the Silambam Dance Company, all senior disciples of acclaimed Indian danseuse Padmashree Sudharani Raghupathy. A part of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Team Sweet Ranis 60 mile Walkers (San Diego 3 Day Walk, Nov 9 – 11, 2007) benefiting Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Krishnam Vande Jatagurum takes the audience on a two-hour journey through the life and exploits of the Hindu God Lord Krishna. It depicts the life of Krishna through the wonder of Yashoda, enchantment of the Gopis, timeless love of Radha, yearning of Meera, devotion of Andal and unswerving dedication of Rukhmini.
After premiering in India last December to rave reviews, the Silambham Dance Company is currently touring the US in a revival of this classic production, originally conceived and choreographed in 1989.
