Jyotsna Jagannathan began her training in Bharata Natyam under the guidance of the reputed scholar and dancer Dr. Hema Govindarajan and continued her tutelage of the dance form under the expertise of A. Lakshman. Since her arangetram in August 1999 at the Kenya National Theatre, Nairobi, Jyotsna has come a long way presenting her art at prestigious venues and festivals across India including the Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Narada Gana Sabha, (Chennai), Natyanjali Festival (Chidambaram), Kittappa Pillai Memorial Festival (Bangalore), Mamallapuram Dance Festival, Poona Sangeeth Sabha, among others. She has numerous award and accolades to her credit including the Dr. M.G.R. Award for Best Danseuse (Music Academy , Chennai). Her study of yoga and music have helped complement and enhance her understanding of dance.
