T. N. Krishnan-Carnatic Violin
T. N. Krishnan hails from an illustrious family steeped in the Carnatic and Hindustani music traditions of India.
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , 6-October-2007  3:28:16 AM
T. N. Krishnan hails from an illustrious family steeped in the Carnatic and Hindustani music traditions of India. Barely in his teens, the young Master Krishnan, as he was fondly referred to by the adoring fans, was a rising star alongside the likes of Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer, Musiri Subrahmanya Iyer, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, G. N. Balasubramaniam, Madurai Mani Iyer, Alathur Brothers, the virtuoso flautist T. R. Mahalingam, and the Mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer.

Krishnan's music represents the purest expression of the Carnatic tradition. His emphasis on melodic clarity, spectral fidelity, and a bold and emphatic bowing technique are unparalleled in his field. In his solo performances Krishnan captures the essence of the gayaka experience, presenting his music with poignancy and character.

Krishnan has also inherited his father's love of teaching and has trained a number of students in the traditional parampara setting as well as formal academic environments. He served as Professor of Music at the State Music College in Chennai and subsequently directed its activities as the Principal. He also served as a Professor and Dean of the School of Music and Fine Arts at the University of Delhi.

T. N. Krishnan has traveled all over the globe as a cultural ambassador, performing and promoting India's rich musical traditions. He has visited North America, Europe and Australia, performing and enthralling audiences and organizing music workshops for teaching and promoting awareness of Indian classical music.
