Two outstanding female musicians take the stage at PEM and share traditional Indian music on the sitar, a long-necked stringed instrument, and the tabla, a small set of drums. Sitar player Allyn Miner trained extensively in Benares with Pandit Thakur Bhan Singh and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. She is also well known for her writings on music, holds two doctorate degrees and teaches at the University of Pennsylvania. Anurahda Pal is a dynamic tabla payer in the tradition of her renowned teachers, Alla Rakha and Zakir Hussain. As a professional musician, Pal makes her mark on what had traditionally been an exclusively male realm
