Bharatanatyam, one of the oldest forms of Indian classical dance originates from South India and is believed to trace its origins to the Natya Shastra written by the holy sage Bharata. The initial syllables of Bha- Ra-Ta in Bharatanatyam also stands for Bhava, Raga and Tala meaning the combination of expression, melody and rhythm.
Please join the disciples of Guru Smt. Gayatri Devi on Saturday Oct 20th 2007 on the auspicious occasion of Saraswati Pooja during this Dussehra festival in a Classical Bharatanatyam Dance Recital with Live music comprising the traditional repertoire of bharatanatyam. Vijayadasmi marks the tenth day of the Dussehra- Navratri period, an auspicious day for new endeavours or commencement of an education in music and dance, and to pay homage to the Teacher.
Guru Gayatri Devi is the founder and artistic director of Aum Upasna and is a well renowned dancer, choreographer and Teacher of extraordinary caliber. Her compositions reflect the pure Kalashetra style of beauty, clarity and dignity. Over the years she has trained and presented several aspirants in Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi in India as well as on an international platform and holds regular classes at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in New York City.
