On November 1st, we introduce you to a Silicon Valley pioneer in the field of venture capital investing, Burton J. McMurtry a Silicon Valley venture capital investor since 1969. A keen traveler, he co-founded several venture capital partnerships, including Technology Venture Investors (TVI) and Institutional Venture Associates.
TVI-backed companies include American success stories like Adaptec, Altera, Compaq, Intuit, Linear Technology Corporation, Microsoft, Nellcor, PMC Sierra, Quantum, SpectraLink, Sun Microsystems, Synopsys, VeriFone, and Visio. Mr. McMurtry currently chairs the board of trustees of Stanford University and formerly served as a trustee of Rice University and the Carnegie Institution of Washington.
Mr. McMurtry has received numerous National Honors and Awards including "Lifetime Achievement Award of the National Venture Capital Association".
Burt is currently a Stanford University Gold Medal of Rice University Alumni Association Life Time Achievement Award of national Venture Capital Association Tau Beta Pi.
A native of Houston, Texas, he holds BA and BSEE degrees from Rice University and MS and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
