Akhilesh Sista began his Veena training at the age of 10 from the eminent bay area Vainika, Srikanth Chary. Srikanth is his cousin and is a disciple of the violin maestro Padmabhushan Lalgudi Jayaraman. Akhilesh has imbibed SrikanthÕs Veena style, which drips with purity, beauty, and spirituality, with an undercurrent of rhythmic precision. Creativity and musical discipline have been the cornerstones of his training.
Akhilesh has given many performances throughout the bay area as a soloist and accompanist, including a recent accompaniment of Sri Papanasam Ashok Ramani, a renowned Carnatic vocalist. Akhilesh has also been the veena player in several Bharatanatyam (classical south Indian dance) orchestras. He has performed at the prestigious Cleveland Aradhana twice with his Guru and has been featured on KKUP, San Francisco and on television station KMTV, Mountain view. His Guru and he have just released a music therapy CD entitiled Ethereal Melodies, aimed at healing physical and mental ailments.
Akhilesh works as a resident at the University of California, San Francisco in the department of Radiology.
