Samskriti Foundation, Chicago presents VANAMALI - THE ONE THEY LOVED - a unique dance production. Samskriti Foundation, a Naperville, IL based, non-profit, Indian Classical Dance Academy and Dance Company presents the world premiere of "VANAMALI - the one they loved" - a grand Indian Classical dance-theater production. This original work weaves three dance forms of India - Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kathak - with their varying costumes, music, language and movement techniques, into one narrative. The production explores the subtle nuances and interplay between Sringara (Love) and Bhakti (Devotion) in Indian mythology and history. In moods ranging from quiet and meditative to vibrant and festive, legends of Sacred Longing unfold to the accompaniment of original scores in Carnatic, Odissi and Hindustani styles of music and lyrics in Tamil, Oriya and Hindi. A company of 24 dancers will perform this 100 minute presentation. Besides the reputed Samskriti Dance Ensemble, the other collaborators on this project are Utkalaa Center for Odissi Dance, Naperville and Anila Sinha Foundation for Kathak Dance, Elk Grove, and features the choreography of artistic directors - Shoba Natarajan, Ipsita Mahapatra and Kiran Chauhan.
