The event depicts two amazing traditional dance forms of Indian Classical Dance: Bharatanatyam from South India and Kathak from North India. Being two of the oldest forms of classical dances in India, they are very traditional and known for its grace, vigor, purity, tenderness, statuesque and sculpturesque poses.
This event is a collaboration of Deeksha School of Performing Arts and Asha for Eduation, a non-profit working for underprivileged children in India.
As seen in "Slumdog Millionaire", a few true depictions of underprivileged children in India. Asha for Education works for those types of children. In honor of the collaboration, one small highlight of the event is a rendition from "Slumdog Millionaire" depicted in fully traditional dance showing how most dance is related to classical dance.
We are glad to have Hemant Panwar, a renowned international Kathak maestro come from Toronto and perform with us. A major highlight is a dance drama - Chitra: the warrior princess, an original choreography adapted from Nobel Laureate Tagore's famous dance drama about an episode in the Indian Epic Mahabharata.
