    Puthumugangal Thevai Review - 12/31/2012 11:20:18 AM
Cast: Shivaji Dev, Vishnu Priya, Bhanu, M S BhaskarDirection: Maneesh BabbuGenre: DramaDuration: 2 hours 10 minutes

Synopsis: Assistant director Anand ( Shivaji Dev) has a script for his debut flick, but is unable to find a producer. By chance, he happens to meet an eatery owner Mani (Rajesh Yadav), who decides to help him produce the movie.

Movie Director: At a time when small budget movies are doing well, comes Puthumugangal Thevai — a movie about an aspiring director's plight to make his debut movie. But with little care taken with regard to the script, Puthumugangal Thevai makes it an unsatisfactory experience. It shows us a newbie's difficulty in finding a producer, then the right cast and so on. It also gives us a sneak peak as to how several new actors pay their way into a movie. But after all this, Anand and Mani decide to rework the script and make a movie about their own lives. And thus we have a movie in a movie like in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, but here it is titled Puthumugangal Thevai.

In the actual Puthumugangal Thevai though, director Maneesh Babbu does such a poor job that sometimes we are left confused with an explanation of a scene or dialogue. The inconsistent screenplay doesn't help matters much and the movie continues at its own pace.

While a lot many words of wisdom are doled out by Anand and Mani on the art of filmmaking, the movie would have made for much better viewing had these ideas been incorporated into it. With no great performance
