    Akilan Review - 1/5/2013 8:22:29 AM
Cast: Dr P Saravanan, Vidya, Rajkapoor, Singam Puli, Manobala, Ganja KarappuDirection: S I Henry JosephGenre: ActionDuration: 2 hours 8 minutes

Synopsis: A spate of kidnappings has terrorized Madurai and assistant commissioner Vishnu Doss (Rajkapoor) is getting a lot of flak from the senior officers. To restore the confidence of the public in the police force, he plans a fake kidnapping and hostage situation - to be solved successfully by his team - but the pitch is queered when sub-inspector Akilan (Dr Saravanan) has his own ideas on how to bring it to an end.

Movie Review: The director set out to make a movie where the story moves on the path less trodden, but the end product turns out to be a waste of time because of a shoddy screenplay and bad execution. The only way such a story could have been salvaged would be to invest the movie with a lot of tension and use slick editing and fast-paced action sequences to make it fast and riveting.

But the movie carries on at its own pace, with songs being crudely placed and characters walking in and out of the screen. It doesn't help matters much when the cast is also found sorely wanting, and the comedy track is more a test of one's patience, rather than being funny. Though he looks good, one only wishes the good doctor from Madurai had chosen a much more competent director to handle his debut movie. And with the end credits promising a second installment, one can only hope he corrects his error.
