    Chandhamama - 3/6/2013 12:43:56 PM
Cast: Karunaas, Swetha Basu, Harish Kalyan, M S Bhaskar, G M Kumar, Ilavarasu, R Sundarrajan, Mohan RamanDirection: RadhakrishnanGenre: DramaDuration: 2 hours 5 minutes
Synopsis: Santhanakrishnan (Karunaas), who is not gifted with writing skills, yearns to be recognized as a writer and self-publishes books under the pen name Chandhamama. When a young singer falls in love with his newly-wedded wife Mary (Swetha), unaware that she is already married, Santhanam decides to write based on this real-life experience.

Movie Review: Whatever be his shortcomings as an actor, Karunaas does seem to have a knack of selecting stories that suit him. In a way, Chandhamama is the other side of the coin to his Dindigul Sarathy. While he played an insecure husband in that film, here, he is a husband so thirsty for fame that he doesn't mind asking his wife to act as a lover to another man.

Director Radhakrishnan has delineated the character of Santhanam quite well that you can empathise with him even if you do not find his actions agreeable (he would rather count the rupee notes his caring dad has given him than look up and bid goodbye to him). It is the kind of role which the Bhagyaraj of the 80s would have exploited with great success. Unfortunately, here, the other characters are either stereotypical or underwritten. And, things happen a bit too conveniently and you can't help feel let down by the lazy writing.
