Mahesh (Senthil) gives up badminton and moves to Singapore in search of work. There he meets Janani (Iniya), who is on a work contract. Mahesh's badminton skills are appreciated by a coach, who takes him under his wing and offers him citizenship to play for Singapore. When things start looking up, Janani gets deported!
Review: If there is one take away from ' Kanpesum Vaarthaigal', it is that sports have to go a long way in our country. After being asked to stop playing and find a job, Magesh leaves for Singapore. In the foreign land, he finds that sports are treated with far more respect than in India. Apart from that, the movie goes through the boy-meets-girl and falls in love routine, which for most part feels like a TV serial.
Sometimes, the way Mahesh's life pans out makes us feel that somebody is holding a magic wand to conjure up each of his wishes. He is forced to burn his badminton racquet as his family is badly in need of money. "I want a job. Take me to Singapore," he tells his friend Appukutty (Murugesan). In the very next scene, he is seen admiring the highrises of Singapore. Most wishes in Mahesh's life are merely a dialogue away.
