Ya Yaa tamil movie review - 9/23/2013 9:29:48 AM
Cast: Shiva, Santhanam, Dhanshika, Sandhya, Devadarshini, Ilavarasu, Rekha

Direction: I Rajasekaran

Synopsis: Dhoni (Shiva) falls in love with Seetha (Dhanshika) but his friend Sehwag (Santhanam) tries to break them apart because he wants to get him married to the buck-toothed councilor (Devadarshini) for personal gains.

Review: Comedy might be the trend in Tamil cinema of late but this film feels like an exercise done just for the sake of it. This is despite the presence of Santhanam and Shiva who have earlier managed to save some of their earlier films with their humour. They play Sehwag and Dhoni, two happy-go-lucky guys for whom life stops with sarakku and 'figures'.

Dhoni falls in love at first sight with Seetha (Dhanshika) but Sehwag tries to break them apart because he is bought by the buck-toothed councilor (Devadarshini) who has fallen for his friend. Things are resolved in a laborious and largely unfunny manner (including a guest appearance of sorts by Power Star Srinivasan), and we only feel relieved when the ordeal ends. We laugh, at times, mainly because we realize this is supposed to be a comedy and we are expected to laugh.

During the introductory scenes, we are told why the leads are called Sehwag and Dhoni — their original names are Rajkiran and Ramarajan and they hate being called so. It is a not-so-subtle dig at the two older actors, who, following their initial successes, became parodies of their screen self. Maybe, in 20 years time,
