Cast: Malar Meni Perumal, Ganthiban, Aghondren Sahadevan
Direction: Muralikrishnan Munian
Genre: Thriller
Duration: 1 hour 50 minutes
Synopsis: Feeling let down by her husband Vijay (Aghondren) on their wedding anniversary, Rekha (Malar) drives to her mother's home in the night. Her mobile phone's battery is dead and her car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. And, to make matters worse, she is offered help by Arvin (Ganthiban), who has something horrific in mind.
Review: A motorway, a woman, and a monster — Adutha Kattam, made by Malaysian Tamils with the support of the Malaysian Film Development Corporation, has the elements for a lean and mean thriller but unfortunately loses its way around its half time by going for unnecessary back stories (with a song, no less!), characters and sub-plot. Stood up by her husband for the umpteenth time, Rekha, in a fit of anger, decides to make a long-distance journey to her mother's place. Unfortunately, it is night, her mobile phone's battery is dead and her car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. And, to make matters worse, she has to deal with Arvin, a criminal who helps her with the intention of sexually assaulting her. Can Rekha save herself?
The first 20 minutes are gripping as we see Rekha grappling with her inner fears as she stands alone in the forest in the middle of the night. Muralikrishnan Munian employs horror movie tropes to make it even scarier.
