Velu, a cowardly cop with a family to support, is told that he has blood cancer and so, to get insurance and keep his family financially stable, he goes on a suicidal mission, by taking on criminals singlehandedly.
Review: Once again, Karunaas shows good judgment in choosing the right script and character to play the lead. His character, Velu, in Ragalaipuram is one that plays to his strengths. Velu is a fearful cop, who is selected to the police force only because his dad died during service. The cowardly cop is something we have seen earlier in Tamil cinema —Bhagyaraj in Avasara Police 100 and more recently, Madhavan in Vettai — and while this film doesn't do anything novel with this character, it keeps the nature of the character constant till the end — the cowardly Velu doesn't turn into an action hero overnight in the latter parts of the film, which makes the film credible enough.
The plot revolves around Velu being mistakenly told that he has blood cancer, after an alcoholic cop switches both their blood samples. Velu, who is the sole breadwinner for his family of four (a doting mother and two sisters), wants his family to be financially stable after his death and takes out an insurance policy. If he dies during duty, his family will be paid Rs 20 lakh. So, craven Velu goes on a suicidal mission,
