When Basirhat teacher Anjaniputra Sen Sharma barters his familiar life for the world of dotcom, little does he know that happiness would slip through his fingers like gangajal. The euphoria of having found a friend online takes a beating when he stands witness to an untoward incident. Like Hanuman embarking on a journey to Lanka, Anjani ventures into uncharted territory — Iceland! But winning chances for him are as grey as the sand beaches in the Nordic island country. Will he, won't he?
Hanuman.com is about a journey, both physical and philosophical, poignant and pious. At the heart of it is a small-town simpleton, Anjaniputra Sen Sharma. He chants Hanuman Chalisa with as effortless ease as he teaches maths in school. The world he belongs to is inhabited by his young wife Tanu, cablewallah Ponchu and dirty jokes-loving Geography master. His life is very much the world before computers came into being. But then, they say, change is the only constant.
Enter computer. Enter internet. Enter apprehension. With wires replacing warmth, Anjani gets hooked to the world wide web and gets caught in it. In no time, computer becomes a wall between the loving couple. While Anjani sets sail in the world of unknown, Tanu sheds silent tears in one corner of the house.
