The film takes us back to the time when our very own Calcutta was yet to become Kolkata, when mobile phones and computers had not become our necessities, when walking on the ramps was still a distant dream for aspiring models... Thus, Once Upon A Time In Kolkata we meet Arjan, a goon-turned-councilor, who saves a beautiful and educated girl, Sreelekha, from kidnappers. He falls in love with her and marries her. Whether it's a new beginning for them, only time will tell.
Don't confuse it for a Bengali version of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. Because it is not! Nevertheless, there is one similarity here. This one, too, is about a deadly local gangster, Arjan (Om), who doesn't think twice before killing people or chopping off their ears if they dare defy his instructions. But when it comes to his wife, he is a different man altogether. He adores her, worships her like a goddess. Sreelekha (Ritabhari) does her duties of a wife, but doesn't love him. She puts up with her husband, who provides her security. She simply can't accept the differences in their cultural, educational and social backgrounds.
