Cast: Asif Ali, Indrajith Sukumaran, Aparna Vinod.Direction: Vinay Govind.Genre: Drama.Duration: 2 hours 20 minutes
Synopsis: Kohinoor tells the story of two men - Louis and Aandikunju - who land up in a diamond heist operation at a textile store. How the two characters devise their own subplot to rob the diamonds form the rest of the tale.
Review: Kohinoor has all the elements required for a heist movie - the late 80s setting, a cast of talented actors and a director whose attention for details turns the film into a nostalgic ride. Yet, the movie's major shortcoming is its predictable and uneven script that puts the onus on the actors to pull it through.
Set in 1988, the story revolves around two men, Louis (Asif Ali) and Aandikunju (Aju Varghese), who dream of making it big through smuggling. As luck would have it, they become part of a heist team - led by Haider (Indrajith) - that plans to rob a textile shop which is, in reality, a cover for a diamond smuggling operation. How the motley crew execute the plan and what transpires next form the rest of the plot.
This is easily Asif's most subtle and charming role till date. While his scenes with Aju in their last venture 'Kili Poyi' had a sense of comic timing, in Kohinoor their chemistry falls flat. Indrajith, Chemban Vinod and Vinay Fort are great in their roles and inject spurts of some much-required life into the film whenever the script fails to deliver.
