Installation – Kickstart, PXE boot, network (nfs/ftp/http) install, kickstart config. – pre% post% install scripts
Disk Management – partitioning tools like fdisk, sfdisk etc. – file system management – ext3 – filesystem utilities (mke2fs, e2fsck, dumpe2fs, tune2fs) – LVM – physical, logical, volumes – volume groups – extending filesystems on LVM – mount, unmount of filesystems - /etc/fstab – mount options – disk quota – automounter
RedHat Linux Startup process - init - /etc/inittab - /etc/init.d service scripts – runlevels – chkconfig, ntsysv utilities
User/group management – authconfig – shadow passwords – user/group management commands
Networking – configuration of Ethernet, ppp interfaces – knowledge of network related service scripts – ifconfig & networking tools
Package management – RPM – several command options for rpm – building rpm packages
Kernel compilation – initrd – kernel modules
Process monitoring – commands like top, vmstat, free etc
Servers – Apache, sendmail, samba, ftp, dhcp, ntp, ssh etc.
Xwindows – X server, clients
Troubleshooting – rescue mode – sulogin etc.
Openssl – public, private key encryption
