Objective of the project is to troubleshoot and resolve problems with acustomer Sybase reporting database. Customer complains that queries are very slow even after adding indexes to key reporting tables. There has also been problems with the stability of replication.Scope of the project will be to gain a background and understanding of issues, consult with customer, Development and Tech Support staff, and Sybase Tech Support in order to be able to make recommendations on solving the problems and to put in place those recommendations.Below is a summary of proposed actions:Perform a database re-org, then document and create a batch script that the customer can setup to run on a regular basis.Analyze which tables are accessed frequently, grow a lot, etc., as the files are laid out on the disk array.Work with customer in benchmarking current performance of their queries, then make recommendations and estimates on how much performance can be improved by hardware upgrades, re-orgs, and improved indexing. Execute the agreed solutions. Examine the current Sybase database and replication setup and make recommendations on how it might be setup better. Work with customer, 3rd Party, and Sybase personnel in troubleshooting problems with replication and recommend and apply a fix to these problems, if possible |
