In addition to a broad programming experience, I'm looking for something very specific: Someone who has written applications against the RV API directly. The candidate needs to understand what multicast is, generally, and have some experience in troubleshooting problems. They should have enough RV experience to know how to identify the source of the problem, utilizing RV advisories, checking RV memory usage and queue size, being able to spot mis-configurations on the RV Daemon, identifying possible network issues (or at least knowing how to eliminate the network as the possible cause) etc.
A significant part of the job is diagnosis and trouble-shooting. Beyond that, they need to help programmers with best practices and to educate them as to the pit-falls and better/safer ways to accomplish their goals. This implies that the candidate has a background in RV programming and has experienced many of the "gotchas" of multicast and low-latency, high-volume environments
