Candidate will gather, review and validate business needs and reporting requirements from business end users, and determine/recommend best tools and methods. Candidate will design, develop and automate reports from the following data source systems: Hyperion Essbase (version 7.x) and Microsoft SQL Server, working with end users or their representatives to ensure business objectives are accomplished. Reporting tools to be used are likely to be Cognos 8 (preferred by our client), Excel with VBA (using the Essbase Add-In command library), and possibly one or more of the following: Microstrategy, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, and/or others. The candidate will be directly involved in evaluating and recommending the reporting tools implemented.
We need someone who is very good, technically and creatively, at designing and implementing reporting solutions, preferably with Cognos 8. The data sources are SQL Server (relational) and Hyperion (now Oracle) Essbase (multidimensional). The source databases have already been developed. The reporting software has not yet been determined, but several are already in-house. Among the likely choices for this project: Cognos 8 (preferred), Microstrategy, Crystal Reports, Excel automated with VBA, Business Objects. The candidate should have experience in one or more of these reporting applications, and also has to be good at quickly learning others he/she does not yet know to be able to develop prototype reports. The candidate must be able to determine whether and how each reporting application will fit defined needs and do basic design and deployment (if necessary, we can locate a specialist to fine-tune). The candidate must have a basic understanding of Essbase and how to extract data from Essbase. If he/she has expertise in web deployment of reports or reporting interfaces, that's a plus. The development process will be iterative and the candidate must be comfortable with that approach. |
