| |
To achieve these goals, the Application Database Administrator's responsibilities would typically include:
Work closely with both the DBA's and Application Administrators to ensure a seamless interface exists between the two teams
Work closely with functional end users of the applications to understand the issues relating to performance and functionality
Work with the Systems DBA's, Applications Administrators and infrastructure team to coordinate upgrades, patches and resolve any cross functional issues
Database performance analysis, corrective action, proactive tuning, maintenance, administration and backup and recovery across the entire database application infrastructure
Capacity and Availability Management of the Database and Application Environments
Create and maintain all Oracle RDBMS databases, software and tools for development, testing and production environments
Administer all database objects, including tables, indexes, views, schemas, packages and procedures
Monitor and analyze database performance indicators, resolve problems and recommend improvement actions
Develop, implement and maintain programs, scripts and routines needed to automate databases
Manage and supports various backup and recovery strategies for Oracle databases (RMAN)
Ensure best practices for the physical database design, integrity, performance and securities management
Install and maintain Oracle tools, such as OEM, Quest Tools and Statspacks
Provide production and development support (including standby duty on a rotating basis)

The person required to fulfil this role would require the following minimum educational qualifications and certification:
Bachelors Degree, preferably in Computer Science
Oracle 8, 9i and 10g R2 Formal Oracle Certifications (OCA)
Application DBA's are effective communicators, have the ability to remain focused on priorities in a deadline driven environment, and communicate clearly (written and verbal) to technical and non-technical internal |
