SUMMARY: The Unix Administrator is responsible for administering Linux,
Solaris, F5/BigIP, Apache, Websphere and PHP for our 200,000 medical
education customers. The administrator participates in operational
management for monitoring as well as the day-to-day administration of
monitoring tools that gauge operating systems, network, Oracle databases, IP
load balancing (BigIP), web application servers (Java Websphere, PHP and
Cold Fusion) and system performance. The Administrator works closely with
other systems administrators and database administrators to maintain systems
availability and to directly support application development and QA test
teams. S/he works on a team led by a senior operations lead and there are
significant mentoring opportunities. Similarly, the administrator has ample
opportunities to contribute to engineering of new systems and re-engineering
of old ones.
Responsibilities:
Monitor and respond to issues on Websphere, ColdFusion, PHP/Apache, Tomcat,
Jini, Linux, Solaris and BigIP servers.
Maintain PHP/Apache, Websphere, Java Tomcat, BigIP, ColdFusion & Java Jini,
Linux and Solaris servers.
Assist developers and project managers with infrastructure policies and be a
point of contact for technical assistance.
Participate in projects to upgrade or migrate infrastructure systems and
services.
Assist developers in migrating their code into environments beyond the
development environment.
Participate in planned maintenance windows; provide key verification
assistance.
Assist in capacity planning for supported server platforms.
Review logs and develop and maintain automated log review methods; provide
monitoring and recovery of scheduled developer jobs.
Serve as a liaison with internal systems administration staff on key
overlapping technical areas (e.g., VMWare and NetApp storage).
