"GANGA - A RIVER'S STORY"

A THEMATIC, MODERN INDIAN DANCE DRAMA TOLD THROUGH THE EYES OF THE BOATMAN WHO NAVIGATES THE GANGES EVERY DAY.

The Ganges River, eternal and vibrant, has sustained and nourished generations. This majestic body of water holds an important place in Sikh, Buddhist, and Hindu lore, where she is personified as the Goddess Ganga. Bathing in her waters is said to forgive one's sins and help the soul reach moksha, or emancipation from rebirth. Stories recall Ganga's tumultuous descent from Heaven in response to the penance of Bhagiratha, only to be tamed by Lord Shiva. "Ganga – A River's Story" artistically retells the story of the Ganges River and the lives of the people she touches.

"ANTHARIKSHA - INNER SPACE"

AN INTERPRETIVE EXPRESSION OF THE JOURNEY OF THE SOUL AND THE FIVE ELEMENTS OF THE WORLD, COMMANDED BY LORD SHIVA.

About the Artists:

The dancers of Ganga include the associate teachers and the senior-most students of Natyalaya, and their guru Smt. Vinitha Subramanian. Natyalaya, which specializes in the classical Indian art of Bharathanatyam, was founded in 1981. The school now has three branches in central Texas, five associate teachers, and nearly 85 students. Natyalaya is dedicated to the teaching and propagation of Indian classical dance. We try to inculcate the love of dancing in children and help them realize their full potential through art.

This summer, Natyalaya was fortunate enough to host a dance camp conducted by award-winning dancers and choreographers Narendra Kumar and Anusha, from the Anusham Dance Group of Chennai, India.
