Elton John raises $ 2.5 mn ........
Elton John raises $ 2.5 mn for Hillary
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , 11-April-2008  10:32:36 AM
Elton John is the latest celebrity to endorse a candidate in the US presidential elections. Hillary Clinton's cash-strapped campaign got a welcome infusion of roughly $2.5 million on Wednesday night, thanks to Sir Elton John.

The singer and songwriter held a one-night only solo concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York with tickets selling from $250 to $2,300.

But if Hillary Clinton has the British pop legend pulling his weight behind her then Barack Obama has a whole music video full of celebrities supporting him. The Black Eyed Peas' front man, songwriter and producer known as will.i.am, has a music video ''Yes We Can'' that is inspired by the speech given by Senator Barack Obama after the New Hampshire primary.

Obama can boast of support by Robert de Niro, Scarlett Johansson, Halle Berry, George Clooney, Salman Rushdie, Kal Penn, John Legend, and Hip-hop millionaire Jay-Z.

Hillary's celebrity backers include big names like Steven Spielberg, Jack Nicholson, Barbra Streisand and Madonna.

Hillary's A-list may be shorter but she does have the biggest celebrity of them all--former president Bill Clinton, whose tax returns show that he can charge between US$ 100,000 to US$ 450,000 an appearance.

Obama began the frenzy for super star endorsements with his netting the thumbs up of TV Tsarina Oprah Winfrey.

Ironically, while Obama has more than benefited from this close alliance, polls show Oprah's approval ratings dropping after she was seen getting involved in politics.

Unfortunately, for Republican presidential candidate John McCain there is no impressive celebrity alliance list. Ironically, in this election year, in celebrity-obsessed America, all endorsements are helpful unless it's from President Bush
