| For Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton every state primary is a must-win and in Pennsylvania she needed a massive double digit lead win to stay credibly in the race with presidential candidate Barack Obama. And the key state didn’t disappoint, allowing her to fight her way back into a contest she's been counted out of.
“Some people counted me out and said to drop out. Well, the American people don't quit, and they deserve a president who doesn't quit either,” Clinton said.
And it was people who see themselves as fighters – Pennsyvania's sizable working class population that gave Clinton a 10-point lead which was 55 per cent to Obama's 45.
Even so, in the big picture Clinton remains behind Obama, winning less states and delegates, and not to mention all national surveys. Meanwhile, Obama seemed ready to move on to the bigger battle for the White House while training his guns on Republican contender John McCain.
“We already know what we're getting out of the other party's nominee. John McCain has offered this country a lifetime of service, and we respect that. But what he's not offering is any meaningful change from the policies of George W Bush,” Obama said.
The Pennsylvania result has ensured that there's no meaningful change in the Democratic race either – they go into the remaining nine primaries with Obama leading – but not by enough yet to knock Clinton out of the race.
