| US presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain are all set to springboard into the big battle to the White House.
Both leaders will begin a string of debates across the United States soon.
John McCain is hoping to use the debates to cash into the pool of women voters and former Clinton supporters while Barack Obama is hoping to make the economy and the war in Iraq his main talking points.
Obama did not wait for Hillary Clinton to formally concede before making a victory speech on the night of the last primaries.
America's first black contender for President is acutely aware that his mission is to turn a chapter in its history.
His message of change struck a chord among the millions of Americans, tired of a five-year-old war and a lousy image abroad.
But Obama has a tough fight ahead. He is broken through a glass ceiling within his own party but can he do the same in all of America?
As he tries to identify a running mate, who will pull along a broader voter base, his Republican rival is busy consolidating his campaign.
John McCain, US Presidential candidate (Republican) said, ''This is indeed a change election. No matter who wins this election the direction of this country is going to change dramatically but the choice is between the right change and the wrong change, between going forward and going backward.''
John McCain has already had a head start, given the long drawn battle between Obama and Clinton.
''Pundits and party elders have declared that Senator (Barack) Obama will be my opponent. He will be a formidable one. But I'm ready for the challenge and determined to run this race in a way that does credit to our campaign and to the proud, decent and patriotic people that I asked to lead,'' added John McCain.
McCain has challenged him to a series of 10, informal town hall debates, no high profile moderators and questions by the audience.
Barack Obama is stepping up to the fight.
