Two policemen accused of raping a women in a police station in Rohtak in Haryana have been sacked. On Monday, Sarita, the 35-year-old mother of two, killed herself, just outside the Haryana DGP's office in Panchkula. For the past few days, she had been demanding action against two policemen posted in Rohtak.
Sarita complained 10 days ago that the policemen raped her in a police station on April 10 and threatened her to keep silent. But, it took the police two days to lodge an FIR and even after that nothing happened.
Sarita's daughters are too young to understand what happened to their mother. Her husband is shattered.
''I am a poor man what will I do. They are powerful; they wanted us to withdraw case against them. I will also consume something and give my kids as well,'' said Subhash Kumar, Sarita's husband.
Now, the police admit that there was a lapse. They are promising to take action. An inspector has been suspended and an order has been issued to arrest the accused.
''The two policemen have been dismissed. Four teams have been constituted for arresting them. Decisions have been taken to re-screening of all the constables and ASIs to look for ''abnormal behaviour'' DG, Haryana Ranjiv Dalal said.
Timely intervention and action by police could have saved one precious life. Sarita wanted to see her criminals being punished. But now even if they are punished, it will be too late
