Obama bags Al Gore's support
Former US Vice-President Al Gore on Tuesday endorsed presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , 17-June-2008  8:24:27 AM
Former US Vice-President Al Gore on Tuesday endorsed presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, saying that he was the right man to end ''eight years of incompetence, neglect and failure''.

Making his debut on the presidential election campaign with a speech at a rally in Detroit, Michigan, Gore urged all Democrats to rally behind Obama.

''After eight years of incompetence, neglect and failure, we need change,'' Gore said. ''After eight years when our Constitution has been dishonored and disrespected, we need changes.''

''I feel your determination after two terms of the Bush-Cheney administration to change the direction of our country,'' he said citing a string of failures, including a botched response to Hurricane Katrina, economic problems and foreign policy mistakes.

Gore, leading an international campaign on climate change and won Nobel Prize for his efforts, said Obama was the man to bring about changes.

He said that 72-year-old presumptive Republican candidate John McCain deserves respect for all he has done for America. But Gore said McCain's ''age and experience'' are not the same as Obama's judgment, noting the Democrat's early opposition to the Iraq war.

Gore, the unsuccessful Democratic candidate in 2000 against George W Bush, had avoided taking sides throughout the primary contests in which Obama was pitted against Hillary Clinton.

Gore remains a powerful force in the Democratic Party and his appearance on the stage with Obama is expected to unite members for the general election on November 4, US media reports said.
