Jammu's encounter with terror has ended fifteen hours after it began.
At around 7 o'clock on Wednesday night the last of the three terrorists hiding inside a house in the residential area of Bantalab fell to the Army's bullets as he tried to escape by breaking the cordon.
And in a huge relief for Billo Ram in whose house the militants were holed up, his four children and wife are safe. But three other hostages all of them male were not so fortunate. They were killed by the terrorists.
Militants were holding about nine persons including four children as hostage. The last gunshots were heard around 7 pm on Wednesday. All three militants were killed but it took more than four hours before security forces discovered that the four children were safe. But their mother received a bullet injury.
" Large number of people are safe. It is a good sign, children are safe," said
Major General D L Chowdhary, GOC 26 division, Jammu.
Children who were kept hostage for more than 15 hours never knew what was happening around them but certainly they were traumatized.
"We went inside the kitchen but they got us out of there. Then two militants came, they were in police uniform," said Rishant Kumar, son of Billo Ram.
Suneeta Devi , mother of the four children was injured but she tried her best to keep her children away from the militants.
"As we told the Army about their presence they tried to break the door of our room but I resisted but then they opened fire injuring me," said Sunita Devi, mother of children and hostage.
Billo Ram is delighted to have his children back with him.
"I had lost hope. I had given up. It was with God's grace that they are safe. Also thanks to the Army for safely getting them out," said Billo Ram, father of children who were kept hostage.
Now it is time for the Army to go back to their units. It had been a successful operation for them though it took them 15 hours to kill all three militants.
