Man we need is McCain, says Bush
US President George W Bush on Wednesday asked the Republicans to rally around his would be successor John McCain
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , 3-September-2008  3:26:18 AM
US President George W Bush on Wednesday asked the Republicans to rally around his would be successor John McCain, praising him for his leadership qualities and also for his sense of judgement on a number of issues including the surge in Iraq.

In a departure from the past, Bush chose to address the Republican Convention via satellite link from the White House, declaring that McCain understands the lessons of 9/11 and the need to stay focused on the war against terrorism.

"We live in a dangerous world and we need a president who understands the lessons of September 11, 2001; that to protect America, we must stay on the offence, stop attacks before they happen, and not wait to be hit again," Bush said.

"The man we need is John McCain," Bush said throwing his full weight behind the Republican nominee, at a time, when he said not only the Democrats but the liberal crowd have some serious questions about senator McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin.

Referring to the Vietnam war record of McCain, who was a prisoner in "Hanoi Hilton," the President said if that could not break his resolve then the "angry left" will not be able to do so either.

The war veteran is "ready to lead the nation", Bush declared.

Republicans had originally planned that the outgoing President would make his farewell speech at the end of his eight-year term in a 15 minute address on the Convention closing. But Hurricane Gustav, which hit Louisiana, blew away the plans.
