One fallout of the Singur stalemate has been an Infosys re-think about expanding its business in West Bengal. But this is unlikely to be Maharashtra's gain.
The company's expansion plans in the state have taken a beating, thanks to the politics of regional pride, being played out by politicians like Raj Thakeray.
Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan had to apologise for his wife Jaya Bachchan's allegedly 'anti-marathi' remarks.
"Jaya has not said anything deliberately. She has not said Maharashtra anywhere but if we have hurt anyone's sentiments we apologise," said Amitabh Bachchan.
Project delays
Due to an anti-north India sentiment, the construction workers on the IT giant's sprawling campus in Pune, its largest ever with 25,000 seat capacity, has come down from 3,000 to around 1,700.
"We are behind schedule by six months. Government is helpless, I don't see any action. The situation has calmed a bit but workers are still not coming back," said T V Mohandas Pai, Director-HR, Infosys.
Maharashtra is losing in a big way, almost 300 employees scheduled to join this Infosys campus this year, joined the Chennai centre.
Experts say many other companies, not coming out in the open yet about project delays, may start to report the same sooner than later.
NDTV tried to contact the Maharashtra government, but failed to get any response.
However, it's clear that the battle between politicians and actors is clearly affecting business, something which the state doesn't really need right now.
