| US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has sent a letter to House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Pelosi is a key player in getting the deal through.
In her letter, Rice said Congress has an "unprecedented opportunity" before it to ensure that the US and India "complete the journey they began together three years ago".
Rice wrote, "I am writing to express my strong support for the United States-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Nonproliferation Enhancement Act. For the United States, passage of this legislation will clear the way to deepen the strategic relationship with India".
According to sources, Rice is to visit India on October 3 and the nuclear agreement may be signed during her visit.
