Kerala and the fertile earth of God's Own Country has brought forth the state's first home grown Catholic saint - Sister Alphonsa.
Kottayam district, with shrines at every bend in the road, is the place where she was born, educated, took the veil and died.
The people of this area have been worshipping Sister Alphonsa for years. But now more than ever, all roads lead to the chapel down the road where she is buried.
The Sisters of her congregation are overjoyed. Seventy-year-old Sister Crucifix joined the convent just a year after Alphonsa's death.
"I knew so many sisters who were her companions, her infirmaries. They said they understood she is something extraordinary and saintly but they never thought she would be raised to the honours of the altar you know," said Sister Crucifix, from Franciscan Clarist Congregation.
"We are very happy because Saint Alphonsa belongs to our congregation itself," said Sister Jyothish.
The world at large may not have known much about Sister Alphonsa till she was put on the path to sainthood. But in her home district of Kottayam she has been revered for decades. Her name is everywhere.
"I've kept this picture of Sister Alphonsa in the shop for 30 years," said Joy, a shopkeeper.
"I am very happy, I feel like crying. I thank God," said M L Mathew, Alphonsa's nephew.
