| Final face-off: McCain, Obama get nasty

| In the final debate before the election, the civility seen the last two times the presidential candidates met on stage, was gone.
Trailing in the polls, the pressure was on John McCain, whose first plan of action was to distance himself from US President George W Bush.
"One of the things we have to recognise is pursuing the same kinds of policies that we pursued over the last eight years is not going to bring down the deficit. And, frankly, Senator McCain voted for four out of five of President Bush's budgets," said Barack Obama.
"Senator Obama, I am not President Bush. If you wanted to run against President Bush, you should have run four years ago. I'm going to give a new direction to the economy in this country," said McCain.
With just 20 days left for the election, neither candidate spared any punches. Obama accused the McCain campaign of relying on attack politics to distract Americans from the nation's economic crisis.
While Senator McCain did put up a strong performance, it was not a game changing one. With just 20 days left in this race and with latest polls showing Senator Obama leading by as many as 14 points, it seems McCain will have to hope for an outside event or a major mistake by Obama, who did not make many this year.
Meanwhile, all Obama needs to do is run out the clock
According to a post debate survey, 58 per cent of those polled said Obama was the winner.
