| here is tension in Kandhmal, following the murder of a local VHP leader Dhanurjay Pradhani, at Gambharigaon under the Brahmanigaon police station on Wednesday.
Although the identities of the assailants are not known, police sources claimed that Pradhani was shot dead by suspected Maoists, possibly for his role in riots during December 2007.
Incidentally, Brahmanigaon which was the epicentre of the December 2007 riots, had remained incident-free, during the communal violence that followed the killing of Swami Laxmananand Saraswati on August 25, this year.
Also, Pradhani's name did not figure in the hit-list publicised by the Maoists in September. The district police and administration are on high alert following the incident.
