The Malegaon blast case has been one of the most controversial and publicly debated investigations in recent times. The claims of torture made by sadhvi Pragya Thakur have sparked off a huge political battle.
However, now NDTV has a detailed authoritative account of the Anti-Terror Squad's point-by-point rebuttal of the sadhvi's charges.
As the ATS move towards the final stages of the case, they have been battered with a wave of charges from the accused of torture, abuse and custodial violence.
They were kicked off by the sadhvi's affidavit in which she detailed both abuse and loopholes in the ATS investigation - an affidavit that have even led to an exchange between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the PM-in-waiting Lal Krishna Advani and charges that are now being repeated in election rallies across four states.
The ATS has offered generic denials of the allegations of abuse but there is a point-by-point rebuttal of the main points of the affidavit.
The rebuttal may be too little too late. Taking a cue from the sadhvi, the charges of torture have escalated and MCOCA court sent the accused to judicial custody - unheard of in a MCOCA trial. It is even likely to order an inquiry into the torture charges
