US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday said nuclear issues would be the "crucial factor" in talks with Iran in October along with other members of the P5 plus 1.
Iran had last week extended an invitation to P5 plus 1 for a dialogue regarding international concerns about its uranium enrichment programme, which has been accepted and is scheduled to take place somewhere in Europe on October 1.
P5 plus 1 refers to the permanent five members of the UN Security Council -- Britain, US, China, France and Russia -- and Germany.
The US delegation would be led by the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Bill Burns.
"I think it is important to underscore that we have made clear to the Iranians that any talks we participate in must address the nuclear issue head on. It cannot be ignored," Clinton told reporters at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department
"Iran says it has a number of issues that it wishes to discuss with us. But what we are concerned about is discussing with them the questions surrounding their nuclear programme and ambitions," she said in response to a question.
Noting that there is no prediction as to what will come from these talks and she that has no illusions about the Iranian Government, Clinton said: "But the point is to meet and explain to the Iranians, face to face, the choices that Iran has, and to see whether Iran is prepared to engage with us around its nuclear programme
