President Barack Obama is assuring the president of Iraq that the US remains committed to working with Iraq to promote its security, political progress and economic development.
The White House says Obama dropped in on a meeting on Tuesday between his national security adviser, Jim Jones, and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. Obama also spoke with Talabani by phone on Monday.
Obama said he appreciated Talabani's leadership in promoting national unity in Iraq.
The White House said Obama and Talabani expressed support for further economic cooperation between their countries, and highlighted the US-Iraq Business and Investment Conference to be held in Washington later this month.
