US-led forces are facing "stiffer resistance" from the Taliban in southern Afghanistan but were sure of overrunning them though the operations would take longer then hoped, top American commander has said.
Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the joint chief of staff said that resistance from Taliban is more than expected and operation Mushtarak could take a little longer time.
"It (success) is going to take some time, and I think it's going to be hard," Mullen, told reporters at a Pentagon briefing. At the same time, he said success is very much possible.
"I think that with the strategy, with the resources, with the leadership with a focus on the people, as is indicated in this operation, that we can succeed there," Mullen said at a joint press conference with the Defence Secretary Robert Gates.
"I think we're headed in the right direction. We got the right leadership, the right strategy, the right resources. And I think we can succeed," he said in response to a question.
