Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday declined to comment on the case of a US national arrested for killing two men in Lahore, saying the matter was in court and under investigation, as authorities rejected the US demand to free the American.
Gilani said he could not comment on the incident because "it was sub-judice and the Punjab government was conducting an inquiry". He said he had already condemned the incident.
"The federal government is not silent over this matter, which is in court," Gilani said while interacting with journalists in his hometown of Multan.
He said he had also discussed the issue on phone with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
"The Punjab government is conducting an inquiry into this matter and I will not comment till it is completed," Gilani said.
Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar told the media that no pressure can force authorities to free the American.
