| Race Course Road Is History. PM's New Address is 7, Lok Kalyan Marg

| India's most important address will no longer be 7, Race Course Road. The street in Delhi on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi lives has been renamed "Lok Kalyan Marg".
"There is nothing bigger than Lok Kalyan (public welfare). Everybody rose above politics and took a united decision to rename the road," said BJP lawmaker Meenakshi Lekhi, a member of the New Delhi Municipal Council that is in charge of central Delhi.
Ms Lekhi had, in a letter to the government, said that the name Race Course Road "does not match with Indian culture".
Earlier, the name "Ekatma Marg" had been suggested for the famous street, as a tribute to the ruling BJP's icon Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. "Ekatma" is borrowed from "Ekatma Manav", which sums up Deen Dayal Upadhyaya's philosophy of "integral humanism".
Last year, one of Delhi's most elite addresses not far from Race Course Road - Aurangzeb Road - was renamed after former president APJ Abdul Kalam, to mixed reactions.
The change was recommended by the BJP's Mahesh Girri, who said that Mughal ruler Aurangzeb was a ruthless figure in history. Many historians, however, argued that the name was a part of history.
