Advisory post for Chappell?
Greg Chappell leaves after tabling the coach's report on the first day of the two-day meeting convened by the Board of Control for Cricket in India
 INDIA , 7-April-2007  2:21:15 AM
Greg Chappell may be offered an advisory position now that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said the outgoing coach could help in the long-term development of the game in the country.

Chappell, 58, who resigned on Wednesday citing personal reasons, made a slide presentation during the first leg of the BCCI meeting convened in Mumbai on Friday to review India's disappointing first round elimination from the ICC World Cup.

`Promote youngsters'

"Chappell emphasised the need to promote youngsters and concentrate on fitness and strength for the team to do well in fielding and running between wickets," Niranjan Shah, secretary, BCCI, said in a statement.

"Board president [Sharad] Pawar was of the opinion that Chappell could be associated with Indian cricket and help in the implementation of the long-term plan although he is no more the coach of the Indian team."

Captain Rahul Dravid and team manager Sanjay Jagdale were at the meeting. According to the BCCI statement, Dravid accepted responsibility on behalf of the team for the poor performance.

Former captains stressed the importance of `A' tours to Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. They also spoke about the urgent need to improve the quality of pitches and umpiring in the country.
