Virginia Tech shooter was S Korean
In one of the worst campus shootouts in the US, a gunman killed 32 people on the campus of Virginia Tech University on Monday before killing himself.
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , 17-April-2007  10:19:50 AM
On Tuesday, Virginia police and university officials identified the killer as 23-year-old South Korean student.

Cho Seung-Hui was living on campus and was an undergraduate English major.

But the police have not specified any motive for the killing spree. Moreover, they have also said that it will take time to identify all the 32 victims.

They have also informed that there is no evidence linking the two shootouts that occurred on the campus within a period of two hours.

Cho Seung-Hui had entered the dorms killing a man and woman and the police at the time couldn't figure out who was responsible.

As a result, they have come under increasing criticism from students and relatives of the victims.

Sequence of events

The first shooting took place at about 7.15 am local time at a residence hall in the southern part of the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg.

Two people were killed in the hall. The police were called in and they arrived apparently "within minutes" and secured the hall, but didn't corner the gunman.

And two hours later, the tragedy became bigger, as the gunman entered Norris Hall - a block of classrooms and labs.

Eyewitnesses described him as "serious faced." He entered two classrooms - the first being a German class of which he was also a part and the second one an engineering class. He killed 30 people there.

Although the police arrived quickly, they found the doors locked from inside, and later they found that the gunman had killed himself.

Classes cancelled

The authorities have also announced that all classes at the university have been cancelled for the rest of the week, but the campus will be open on Wednesday for administrative purposes.

They also said that Norris Hall, however, will remain closed for the rest of the semester.

However, for over a dozen victims, still hovering between life and death, the night is going to be a long and crucial one.
