The monsoon is wreaking havoc in Gujarat. At least 84 people have now died and more than 6,000 people evacuated.
The worst affected is Saurashtra and the southern region of the state. Ahmedabad and adjoining areas in the Saurashtra region and Junagarh, Jamnagar and Rajkot experienced heavy rains.
The districts worst affected by floodwaters are Bharuch, Narmada and Surat in south Gujarat and Bhavnagar and Surendranagar districts in Saurashtra.
Traffic on the national highway number eight, which connects Ahmedabad to Mumbai, has been jammed at several places.
Floodwaters on the railway tracks in Rajkot district disrupted rail traffic in Saurashtra region.
The Army has been put on alert in several areas of the state.
The government has set up an emergency response centre in Gandhinagar to oversee relief and rescue work.
However, the situation in South and Central Gujarat has improved in the last 12 hours. The Purna river in Navsari is flowing below the danger mark.
