| Thompson ends US presidential bid |
| US presidential hopeful Tommy Thompson has abandoned his campaign following a poor showing in Saturday's straw poll of Republican contenders in Iowa.

| The Wisconsin ex-governor, who came sixth, had said he needed to finish in the top two to continue his campaign.
"I have no regrets about running... but I respect the decision of the voters," Mr Thompson said in a statement.
The former Massachusetts governor, Mitt Romney, topped the poll with twice as many votes as his nearest rival.
The Iowa poll, attended by tens of thousands of Republicans, has traditionally helped determine the party's White House candidate by forcing weaker candidates to drop out.
Campaign trail
Mitt Romney won 4,416 votes, ahead of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee who came second with 2,587 votes.
Senator Sam Brownback was close behind with 2,192 votes. Mr Thompson finished sixth with 1,039 votes.
Mr Thompson said: "I felt my record as governor of Wisconsin and Secretary of Health and Human Services gave me the experience I needed to serve as president.
"I am leaving the campaign trail today, but I will not leave the challenges of improving health care and welfare in America."
Other leading Republican candidates, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain, did not attend the event.
Actor and former senator Fred Thompson, who has not yet formally launched his campaign, was also unable to participate.
